Sexual violence has physically and emotionally scarred the lives of millions of victims and their families, friends and colleagues; touching all genders, ages, races and economic groups. In order to raise awareness about this scourge, encourage prevention iniatives and let survivors know what services are available to aid them, April has been declared National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).
