Sadly, crime is ever increasing in the streets, in residential areas and on college campuses. Everyone has to be constantly on the alert. We need to make sure that windows and doors are always locked and that those lock are secure. Door frames need to be strengthened so they can’t be kicked in. No one should walk alone especially at night. Children have to have safe ways to walk to school and they should walk in groups only. Our children have to be taught the basics of self protection–how to shout for help, stay away from strange cars and all strangers. Be aware of Internet dangers. There are so many thing to learn and to teach in order to keep home and family safe.
As as added item of protection there are products such as defense spray and fogs and stun guns. Who should carry them? Responsible adults and students need to have, at last, a pepper spray which comes in many sizes, strengths and styles. They may even be disguised as perfume bottles or lipsticks making it easy for a girl or woman to be discretely armed.
Not all states and not all cities permit the sale and use of stun devices Most do permit some form of pepper spray. It is unfortunate that they are not all legal everywhere because crime is everywhere. Where it is legal it a good idea to have a small container of pepper spray for keeping in pocket or purse and another large container at home near a front or rear door. Sometimes one has to be aggressive to prevent a crime from being completed.
