On November 24, 1971, a skyjacker and extortionist who became known as D. B. Cooper parachuted out of a Northwest airlines flight–and into infamy–somewhere over Ariel, WA with $200,000 of the airline’s money, never to be seen or heard from again. This case has intrigued law enforcement and amateur sleuths alike, including me, for more than 40 years, and tonight, I’m speaking with journalist Geoffrey Gray, author of Skyjack: The Hunt for D. B. Cooper, who was the first person to have access to confidential FBI case files on this most enduring of cold cases.
Also on the show, Tracy Hobson, Executive Director of the Center for Anti-Violence Education, a non-profit self defense organization, talking about what communities can do to keep people safe in these days of tight budgets and police cuts. Located in Brooklyn, NY, where there’s been a rash of gropings and attacks, they’ve stepped up and are doing free programs for the community. A model for what can be done everywhere.
And, you better start making out your holiday shopping list, because I’ve got lots of suggestions for personal safety products that will help keep your loved ones safe. Don’t forget to check out my shopping safety tips (both online and in malls!) during the month of November on my blog CrimePrevention101.com, or on my Twitter @crimeprevent101 and, of course, my Facebook page: Susan Bartelstone.
